K’É HASIN PROJECT DESCRIPTION

K’É HASIN Project  is a community-based initiative that encourages the Southwest Indigenous peoples’ immersion in creating opportunities to reflect on traditional ways of living, historical experiences, and pathways toward healing and collective growth.

Through cultural education, ethnobotanical knowledge, physical activity, ceremony, storytelling, and community gatherings, K’É HASIN seeks to inspire individuals to become more aware of their relationship with the land, their history, and one another.

UPCOMING EVENT

During the last leg of the North American Trek, Judas will join up with the K’é Hasin project during the first inaugural on Friday, October 16th in Ganado, Arizona. We will be hosting a 5k walk/run, followed by a free shared meal, and ending with a traditional Native American Church ceremony, with an emphasis on youth participation. The trek will end in October, when Judas returns to Santa Fe, Chantel plans on continuing K’E HASIN as an annual event, and growing from there.

We are seeking support in the form of financial contributions, in-kind donations, and spreading the word for community members to participate. Please consider making a contribution to the $3,600 fundraising goal to cover the costs of the food, water, and ceremony. All proceeds through October will go toward this project.

Project Roots

When Chantel moved to Phoenix in 2019, her experience in education and conservation management was the initial culture shock between these opposite lenses. Judas, her crew mentor as a part of American Conservation Experience, introduced her to ways of approaching social-emotional dynamics and diversity that helped her concretely embody her values as a member of my community. They stayed in touch, and during his walk across the country in 2021 and Chantel helped organize and host a community clean-up in Window Rock, the Diné capitol. In June 2025, Chantel joined we.grow.eco in Santa Fe, NM as the education program facilitator and coordinator, where she has honed her skills in experiential education. She am now implementing these skills toward building my own project.

K’é Hasin project founder Chantel West grew up on the Navajo Reservation of northern Arizona, and then leaving to experience the world of industrialization and technology outside, exposed me to two different lenses of what humans define as a ‘society.’ Through the K’É HASIN project I hope to create a space for greater understanding of our place within, and accountability to, our environment.
